Because this is an intensive 'hands on' workshop, it will be necessary to attend in person. This session will not be recorded.

Because the second session builds on learning from session 1, you will need to commit to attending both sessions.

Session 1: Tuesday 9th August 2022 10am - 12pm

Session 2: Thursday 18th August 2022 10am -12pm

Pre-requisites

No knowledge or experience in R is assumed or required. However, a general level of computer literacy will be assumed. You should be comfortable downloading files and creating new folders, and you should understand core concepts such as file extensions and the difference between your local hard drive and the cloud. Whilst the workshop will be fully supported, you should also be ready and willing and try and problem-solve yourself. Before attending the first session, you will be required to work through some preparatory materials which will involve installing R and RStudio. This should take 1-2 hours (unforeseen technical problems not withstanding!).

Preparation

There is a small amount of prep for you to complete before attending - you will need to install R on the laptop you will be using (if you don't already have it installed)* and read through some basic information about how it works, and you can find all of the info you need here.

Technological requirements

You will need a computer capable of running R and RStudio. It is also preferable to work from a computer for which you have full administrative rights. If this is not possible, we would recommend using RStudio Cloud for the workshop to avoid any problems with installing packages and knitting Markdown documents. Computers will be available in the teaching space for you to use the cloud if you do not have access to your own device.

* If you don't have a laptop to use, you will be able to use a PC in the teaching space, but it would be helpful if you read through the info beforehand anyway.
